ABOUT GSFC

Gujarat State Fertilizers & Chemicals Limited is an Indian manufacturer of fertilizers and Industrial Chemicals. GSFC was founded in 1962. It is an undertaking by government of Gujarat and one of the largest manufacturer PSU with a market cap of 4840 Cr.

ABOUT GSFC SIKKA PLANT

As a part of expansion aimed at catering to the needs of Gujarat’s farmers, GSFC established its coastal Di Ammonium Phosphate (DAP) plant at Sikka at Moti Khavdi, 27 km from Jamnagar and 10 km from Sikka Port.

The plant produces DAP from merchant grade Phosphoric Acid and Ammonia. The Phosphoric Acid from countries like Morocco, Tunisia and South Africa and Ammonia from Bahrain, Qatar, and Saudi Arabia arrives at Sikka jetty, from where it is transported by a pipeline to GSFC plants. Sulphuric Acid and Bentonite are added for grade adjustment. The plant was originally designed for DAP but has the flexibility to produce other products in tune with market requirement. The plant successfully produced Ammonium Phosphate Sulphate (APS) for the first time in 2001. The unit has been facilitated for the production of NPK Fertilizers.

CHALLENGES

In a systematic effort, Gujarat State Fertiliser Corporation had clearly outlined its project objectives. The major ones were as follows.

  • Eliminate non-revenue water consumption
  • Quickly and remotely identify leakages
  • Minimise customer complaints and disputes
  • Ensure easy and remote reading
  • Improve accuracy of readings and billing
  • Ensure real-time data management
  • Reduce maintenance costs

This called for Automatic Meter Reading (AMR) capabilities and Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI). Also, Gujarat State Fertiliser Corporation was looking for a competent instrumentation partner who can provide turnkey support. This included civil work, fabrication and cabling required for Flowmeter installation apart from the supply of the system. Once finalized, the project was time-critical.

SOLUTIONS FROM FLOWTECH

Once on board, our team prepared all the project drawings and a clear action plan, so as to manage the entire project in the stipulated time schedule. In order to manage the entire water network effectively and efficiently, Flowtech team suggested a complete system consisting of the following.

Full bore Electromagnetic Flowmeters – Model FlowMag 6621 (11 nos.) These are used at various rising mains with GSM RTUs facilitating AMR

Flowtech GSM based AMR is one of the most advanced solutions in the market. It can be easily connected to digital or analog output of our Electromagnetic Flowmeters.

The Flowmeters use available cellular networks for transmitting metering data to control centres. The self-powered unit transmits accumulated data each day. Users can find out exactly what is happening in their water supply network and react immediately to any crisis or alert condition.

The Automatic Meter Reading (AMR) technology provides data on consumption, diagnostic and status from water metering devices. This data is then transferred to a central database for billing, troubleshooting and analysing. This saves utility providers the expense of periodic trips to each location for taking meter readings.

BENEFITS TO GUJARAT STATE FERTILISER CORPORATION

With the installation of the entire system from Flowtech, Gujarat State Fertiliser Corporation is empowered in several ways. Automatic Meter Reading (AMR) capabilities are helping them to achieve precise control, exact measurement and real-time billing of water. Customised solutions and products from Flowtech meet the requirements and further help waterworks department to avoid water wastage and improve overall water metering management capabilities, thereby saving substantial money. The following distinct benefits are achieved by GSFC:

SAVINGS / INCREASED REVENUE

  • Drastic reduction in non-revenue water usage and accurate information on consumption helped increase revenue
  • Saving in the expenses incurred in periodic trips to each location for obtaining meter readings
  • More accuracy in billing and adherence to billing cycle help increasing revenue and maintain cash-flow
  • Reduced maintenance costs

IMPROVED WATER MANAGEMENT

  • Statistical data improved the decision-making process
  • Accurate, fair, transparent and timely billing
  • Availability of data that would be used for tackling crisis situations and for future strategic planning
  • Reduced the number of customer service calls and disputes
  • Real-time data management
